Software released!

Finally, version 1.5 Final is here!
Here are some changes...
- Added a message box to the quick exit function to confirm you before exiting the game.
- A few rearrangements to the code.
This version will be the final development of the test demo to "Joe Snow," but won't be permanently finalized. If the game shows some bugs after version 1.5, then updates will still be made, but only to fix those bugs. Be sure to stay intact with the announcements for "Joe Snow" at the Acoders website!

And now, version 1.4 is ready!
Here are the new things...
- New sound formatting for reducing file size.
- Fixed a few overlooked bugs.
- Small changes to the level "Movers & Lips".
- Changed a few things for loading selected songs to conserve memory. (May cause load times)
- Created a small splash screen.
- Made the game more friendlier for little to no more room on hard disk or on a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM; both size and problems saving.
Just a friendly reminder that feedbacks are still in need. They can be to specify what computers would handle the test demo perfectly, what you experienced at the test demo that should be improved, or what would you like to see in the future before the full release of "Joe Snow."
The development of the test demo is near its end and so far looking great to last until finished.

Version 1.4 of the test demo is in the making as of now. For that update, I'm attempting to decrease the file size by lowering the quality of the audio, but still retain optimal playback. Also, I'm doing a little experiment that could save some memory by loading songs. Currently, the test demo uploads all the songs at once, using tons of memory. I'll be making the game to load only the chosen songs, but might cause some noticeable load times. Because I'm planning on getting tons of songs, I don't want to overload the RAM.
I wanted to give everyone the note that once the demo is performing as best as it can, I'll finalize the last release of the test demo and continue on with the full project.

Version 1.3 uploaded to fix the bug from completing the "big score needed" level.
|
| |
Version 1.2 is now up. Here are the changes...
- Default key for jump is now the space bar
- You can use the Up Arrow for jump anytime
- Changed the player"s platforum movement
Edit: There is a bug in the game, causing you to get stuck in "Big Score Needed" level. I'll get that fixed for version 1.3 very soon.

Version 1.1 is now available. Here are the changes...
- Changed defaulted keys slightly. switched from Right Shift to Left Shift key
- Modified objects to improve memory consumption
- Cursors now allows you to wrap around
- Possibly fixed a small, graphic bug
- Cursors can scroll automatically by pressing down a key or button
- Coin animation changed
- Melted scene changed slightly
- Added escape key for quicker exiting

I wanted to give you the heads up that the version 1.1 of the test demo is coming up soon. Accordingly to most of your feedbacks, I'm noted a few problems like slowdowns and controlling. I will get those fixed up and released when ready.
So far, this game works for Windows 98 SE and Vista, just to let you know! I'm certain any windows version between 98SE and Vista will work as well.
Thanks for your feedbacks! Keep it up!

Test Demo v 1.0 is released.
|
| |
The soundtrack for the test demo is complete! Now all I need to do is create a manual for playing the game, then the test demo should be ready to release. Trust me, a game with no manual would be just as difficult playing it.
I noticed from my last update, I said after I get the soundtrack finished, I would release the test demo. Well, I... sort of lied. But, the manual shouldn't take long at all to complete.
|
| |
I'm happy to report that the test demo is almost set to go!
The game playing is all ready, but I still needed to complete the soundtrack. Once that is all done, then I will release my test demo!

Not much of an update, but a news for this project. You see, today, on Groundhog Day, is the 1st anniversary for announcing "Joe Snow!" "What does that mean?" you may ask. Probably means that I'm not working hard enough or it's just one of those pointless updates. If you are reading this, I hope it was a best 1 minute to spend, lol.

The Test Demo will be delayed.
I did promised to release the Joe Snow Test Demo by either December or January, but I feel that the game is still not fully finished.
I'm having some problems trying to get the saved data engine working perfectly and completing all the audio work before releasing.
The Test Demo will be pushed back to some time in February.

I'm almost done adding the parts for replaying each level.
If the user wants to replay the world, they can try to either play any level in the world, or replay the entire world again. The user then again can try to get the highest score possible in a world, and to get the highest sum of scores that the player had after clearing each level. The player will then be able to save their scores and be able to come back.
Even though it is only a "test demo," changes is a possibility for the game's improvement.
|
| |
I've got one idea for the upcoming demo version of "Joe Snow."
As you know, the world, will be named "Demo World," will have 10 playable levels from 5 other upcoming worlds in the demo.
* Play though 10 levels provided in "Demo World" without getting a score of zero. * Once you cleared "Demo World," you can replay each levels to earn better scores.
The demo will be brief in game play, but attempting to add some small features to raise the play time significantly.
|
| |
I have some thoughts about adding new stuff to the game play after the demo is completed. Since it's still too early to plan, I rather wait until I see the reactions after the demo is set to release.
The demo would be considered as a "test demo," meaning that the game from the demo might be modified for to make the game better and possibly funner. Again, the effect of changing the game depends on the user's reactions or feedbacks to the test demo. After the test demo release, feedbacks are necessary for improving the remake.

Added 4 new screenshots!
The backgrounds are a tad bright for some, but they are only temporary.
|

The demo of Joe Snow is getting closer to completion. The demo may be relatively short in play time, but I'll think it over whether or not the demo should be extended.
At the moment, 10 levels in 5 different worlds, so there are 2 levels in each world, are planned to be included to the demo.
I'm predicting that the demo might be released to the public sometime in December, but, again, because of the possibility of a short play time or more, it might be bumped into next year in January.

Added 2 new screenshots here. Enjoy!

No no, I'm not dead yet! I still have to get the level engine working well. I wanted to make sure everything runs smoothly and organize everything to run efficiently.
|
| |
I've got the level structure all ready to run, so any levels can now be played.
Now, I'll be working on a demo which includes 10 playable levels chosen randomly as the first world. Be sure to keep your eyes open for that. I can't make any promises on when the demo would be out, but I'm suggesting late 2007 or early 2008. Otherwise, I'll let you know when the game would be reaching to the point of completing the demo.

| |
I'm going to be switching from MMF1.5 to BlitzMAX because it's starting to get all glitchy from the way MMF1.5 was handling the project. By switching over to BlitzMAX, the game should gather a better runtime and less memory consumption after the final build of Joe Snow.
Having said that, and I know it's getting old for me telling this, but it's going to take a little more time to catch up.
|
| |
I'm starting to figure out how many levels would this game have. Because each level takes about 1 to 2 minutes to complete, I might create large amount of levels. I might consider over 100, but the plans need to be discussed.
|
| |
I got the platforming engine working perfectly now. Now I will be starting creating levels, getting the project started.

| |
Added project!
