I've been spending what free time I have recently (mostly playing Assasins Creed) but also playing around with the idea of using PHP's GD image extentions to form some isometric maps.... I considered trying to use GD to render an iso world and preform some post-processing filters to my tiles to help smooth the tile edges.... I've got an example working online at http://rhodesy.acsv.net/isometric/gd_fade_test.php You can add the following url params: random=1 coords=1 dither=1 I'm wondering if I should go one step further to make them look less square...... eg if you have the following tiles: 0 0 0 0 * * 0 * 0 then instead of having a sharp square corner, it will have a more rounded turn... 0 0 0 0 B * 0 * A <-- point A & B will have more of a slanted appearance....... Here is my tilemap for this too... The white tile edges are the different approaches I've tinkered with in trying to get a nice edge appearance. (If anyone wants to create some fun tiles I'll certainly add them in ) I'll make something one day..
