Description: You are David Katz, a 30 year old man from New-Jerusalem. Accidently caught in a time travel bubble, set off in a nearby hidden (or not so well hidden) military base, your adventure begins. The device which caused the bubble, threatens to destroy the whole world, so it is up to you to rebuild it before it's too late!
The game has a good story, with some humour injected in via dialogs with various characters. There is often mention of figs, they seem popular in this world. Unfortunately the game lets down a lot in most other areas. This is mainly due to the incredibly slow rate it plays. Not to say the game doesn't have enough to do, but it just takes too long to even walk to a nearby place.
The authors have obviously taken a long time to include a whole variety of mini games and different locations. Unfortunately by the time you reach these you will be half alseep because of the slow down. It is a shame because the game started out well, but after the first area things really slow down alot.
Overall this game could have been a lot better, with only a few tweaks made to it. Definitely the longest entry in this compo, but bugs and slow movement lets it down big time. | download ( 7.98 meg ) | Screenshots Total points from all judges, per catergory | How clever the use of theme of "time" is. | 4860 / 7000 | | Gameplay. | 2000 / 3500 | | Originality. | 1172.5 / 1750 | | Control. | 927.5 / 1750 | | Graphics. | 1060 / 1750 | | Sound. | 955 / 1750 | | Lastability. | 1012.5 / 1750 | | Presentation & Atmosphere | 1260 / 1750 | | Overall. | 2170 / 3500 | | Total | 15417 / 24500 | Judges comments | citizen | | This game had potential, but fell short in my opinion. I think with work it really could be more fun. | | danjo | The use of time here in an adventure is a risky one, as all it means is you
visit places in time. the use of a puzzle type thing to collect the cherub
certainly helped break up the slow drudgery of walking around. it crashed
after i got the cherub from the fort. so thats as far as i played it. it was
overall a little uninteresting to play, and the animations in this were pretty
average. | | Jimbob | | A great amount of detail has gone into this game with all the background information and the size of the locations but it is not integrated as well as it could have been. This leads to a slow, frustrating adventure that I really wanted to enjoy. | | Rhodesy | The Hoshen had alot of potential, i've always loved a good adventure game but this one disappointed me. The overall pace of the game seemed rather slow and had you wandering around for most of it between locations.
The use of time in this was different, making the story revolve around time seemed not very original, but still it was fun to play.
I liked how the game was also scattered with little jokes along the way, and the whole introduction story was very well put together :)
Overall The Hoshen was a good game but did lack in certain areas. | | skn3 | | A clever use of time, in the form of a story. The story consists of more than just a piece of text. It dictates the entire game, so it counts as proper time usage. I thought the game had great potential at start, with some humour and basic intro sequence. It really did get boring to play as it took so long to walk/move anywhere. I think if the author had got some people to beta test, they would have spotted this. Good effort. | | SToPGAP | Hoshen is an interesting game with a nicely developed storyline and lots of back-story. I liked the bonus games too. It seems like a lot of research and information has been gathered to make this game.
The controls were OK but felt a little hit and miss at times - it was sometimes hard to see whether you were clicking on the right object to do/talk with - but I got the hang of it fairly quickly.
There were some nice GFX effects and touches around the game that made it look cool, I liked the timelines selection screen a lot. This game feels like it has lots to find and I can see myself playing it more.
An interesting effort indeed, good luck! :) | | TwiTerror | This is a very intresting idea, but it doesn't last too long due to the FPS problem. The game slows down considerably once you leave the first 'era.'
This shows potential, just not executed right.
Some controls for volumes would be nice, because all I heard were loud footsteps and hardly any music. | | | | |
